Release Notes:
v1.0.0: Queries based on FAA data only
v2.0.0: Larger worldwide database - far beyond only FAA data; each query is a google link
v2.0.1: Opened to all urls so people running on localhost can utilize the features
v2.5.0: Added a button that displays recent flights from Interesting aircraft.
v2.5.2: Added a "clear interesting" filter; added some disclaimers
v2.6.0: Added more interesting button categories. The interesting database has grown. Added titles to buttons around the page.
v2.7.5: Added some instructions; Added more interesting categories and more planes to the respective categories; Changed some CSS for a cleaner look.
v3.0.0: Airplane database is now hosted in the cloud. The fetch times can be slower, but this allows me to make near real time database corrections and updates!
v3.5.0: I reverted the cloud changes back to local files due to costs associated with AWS. No other changes at this time.
v4.1: Added some logic if the user clicks on a plane not in the database; added more planes to the database; added a few planes to the interesting filters.
v4.2: Fixed a bug/usability issue where clearing the interesting filters will show the map in a very zoomed-out state which is a bear for older computers or poor network connections to display all the aircraft for.
v4.4: Added a couple of new filters, with many aircraft that I think people may find interesting.
v4.6: Added a note to the Heads of State filter to please be patient. Added some new images to the download package highlighting how our database is better.
v4.7: Adjusted filtering and massaged the database.
v5.2: It's been a while since the latest release. This is mostly just data cleanup and rearranging of filters, etc. Nothing major in this release.
v5.5: I fixed a bug that was causing the selected registration information to disappear very quickly. This was caused by some updated code from the tar1090 guys to automatically refresh the left panel every second. The bugfix implemented will automatically hide the registration after 5 seconds so clicking around on different aircraft will not always show the last aircraft details.
v6.0: database updates
v6.1: major change to the database/data model. Instead of querying the database by registration number, it now queries by icao hex number which is going to be more reliable. Also, the database is updated for May, 2021 so many newer aircraft additions are searchable. Finally, Many new additions to the 'interesting' aircraft in each of the sections.
v6.3: additions & updates to interesting filters
v6.4: very minor tweaks to data/database/interesting filters
v6.5: some minor styling updates; code refactor/old code removal
v6.9: I added a way to zoom to a home position of your choice. This value is stored in local storage.
v7.0: I'm very pleased to announce that "Favorites" is here. It's one of the reasons I created this extension in the first place.
v7.2: I implemented a "quick zoom" feature that enables the user to type in a city and the map will automatically zoom to that city via a geocoding API from mapquest.
v7.3: better support to users trying to use ADSBexchange's dark mode setting; form validation on favorites; enter/return to save new favorites
v7.35: removed "home position" feature. I never want users to think that I'm collecting anything about them, including where they are on the map.
v7.36: fixed the geocode feature, added some new spacex jets/helicopters that were freshly registered
v7.37: general cleanup. Mild database updates, css cleanup. Nothing major.
v7.38: Database updates, fresh colors. Added a "quick jump" feature to jump quickly to cities. This feature may not stay.
v7.40: reevaluated some of the interesting filters; created a NASA filter; made some slight database corrections
v7.51: In this version I implemented an aircraft tracking API to display where the aircraft came from and where it's headed. It isn't available for every aircraft. Depending on API usage and costs, it's possible this feature may not stick around forever.
v7.53: Added another API call to determine aircraft departure and arrival airport names. Cleaned up unnecessary old code. Slight text css gussying.
v7.54: Added a donation button via BuyMeACoffee.com :)
v7.55: Added some support documentation. Added a div around the donate button to make it obvious that is for the extension and not part of the site. Added content to the popup.html file.
v7.56: Updated privacy policy, icons, and file references
v7.57: Updated to manifest v3. Fixed some slight css issues.
v7.58: I had to remove the departure and arrival data querying. Data for this was $99/month and since this is a free project, it is not feasible for me to include that information at this time.
v7.60: Various interesting filters/database updates
v7.61: I removed the donation button and opted instead for a Twitter follow button. I also updated the popup to remove any reference to departure/arrival data.
v8.0: Finally getting back into feature development - added a zoom to airport feature via either IATA or ICAO code. New interesting filters for Russia and Ukraine militaries.
v8.1.1: Changed the way data is queried away from clicking the registration number and instead you will now click on the hex/icao. The reason for this is because adsbx has made it hard to query brazilian jets. Those have a link built into the reg number. Also with PIA jets and other 'n/a' registrations, querying was not working. This will be better in the long run.
v8.2.1: A reddit user asked for a filter for tracking 'eco friendly' companies. Companies that swear they have a small carbon footprint. I added that in this feature. There's room to grow here so if you have a suggestion, please send some companies my way.
v8.2.3: Added a simple disclaimer with some links to the extension's disclaimer & privacy policy as well as a link to the radarspots blog.
v8.2.6: Name change to RadarSpots! Disclaimer additions! General cleanup.
v8.3.0: Data integrity and cleanup.
v8.3.1 (3/7/22): Some new interesting filters; a new feature to convert & view ICAO by registration number
